Match report
03/10/2009 - M3 vs S ADELAIDE 3
The game started with Southgate having most of the possession dictated by their more than useful centre half with S & S seemingly content to absorb the pressure & counterattack employing the pace of Max King up front. Chances were created at both ends, keeper Steve West effective for S & S in goal and King & Pete Seward going close at the other end. With a few minutes left in the half Southgate were awarded a Penalty flick after Paul Symons was unfortunate in stopping the ball with his foot on the line, this as duly put away by the Southgate centre forward.
S & S increased the intensity in the second half in all areas as their superior fitness started to pay, young full backs George Tipper & Stephen Williams working hard to turn defence into attack & the central midfield of Seward & Andy Cusack getting a higher proportion of the ball over their Southgate counterparts. With only eight minutes to go King tenaciously got past two defenders & got the ball into the area, Trevor Bridger throwing himself at the ball to convert. S & S then laid siege to the Southgate goal & with two minutes left won a short corner Seward converting with a pummeling shot.
This was not a great performance from S & S, although King, Bridger, Chris Brown, Tipper & Williams put in notable games. In the end the intensity of their game in the second half was enough to clinch it.
