Match report
10/10/2009 - M4 vs ST ALBANS CITIZANS
Shefford & Sandy 4ths 0 St Albans Citizens 5
Steve West was probably Man of the Match for this one-sided encounter, and as he was GK this gave a true reflection of the game. He made a string of fine saves.
St Albans (still playing 2-3 divisions below their true potential) were quicker, more skillful and linked together well. A weak player was not to be found, unusual at this level.
S&S were unable to get out of their half and turned round 2 goals down.
The second half went much the same way, but with the S&S defence not dropping their heads and clearing well on many occasions. The last few minutes got a tad techy with St Albans losing their composure and "Citizens" title which served them well last season. Frank, Joe and Paul rose the challenge, mixing fire with fire, and even Luke got himself yellow carded towards the end. The final whistle then blew and we finally had a chance to meet their goalkeeper.
Obviously a disappointing result but the players spirits remained high especially after being told that their efforts had rewarded them with promotion to the 3rds for the following week. Steve West was doubley chirpy when realising that he has probably retained the "4ths Player of the Season" by early October !
George played well with discipline, Max struggled with a lack of service, Chris never stopped running, ditto Shaun, who improved as the game progressed. Pete/Andy tried unsuccesfully throughout to supply ball to the forwards and Rickys first game showed he has potential to stay the course.
Team - steve west, george tipper, joe o'sullivan, frank sole, paul symons, andy cusack, pete seward, shaun beckett, luke bridger, chris brown, max king, ricky monaghan.
